As our county changes, it will be incumbent on the school board to work more closely with the Board of Supervisors and the General Assembly to make sure that FCPS secures the appropriate funding to meet the needs of all our students. But, budget priorities should be priorities in times of abundance or in times of shortfall.
Budgets ought to be moral documents that align with the strategic goal of student success at all times. Using good data about student achievement paired with input from our admins, staff, students, and the community, we should develop a budget that reflects priorities at a building level. After tying those priorities to the strategic plan, we can target resources for the greatest impact without overextending our budget.
